Just recently I got back from Christchurch and what an eye opener it was! Evidence of the February 22nd Earthquake still lingers around the city. The roads even on the outskirts of Christchurch are rough and liquefaction still rests besides the broken roads. My family and I drove around the CBD as close as we could get so we could see some of the devastation first hand. It was one of the saddest moments of my life. I guess growing up in New Zealand where there has never been such violent nature disasters as close to home as this made it worse. There is no area in and around Christchurch where there is no evidence of this disaster. I guess to understand how terrible it was you really do have to experience it for yourself.
However, it was truly beautiful seeing the people of the city come together and help each other out. The buildings weren't strong enough to make it through but the people were. This was the most amazing part. It truly makes me love this country even more. I love New Zealand and everything about it. Sure enough other countries are just the same. But New Zealand is home and we will do everything to keep Christchurch together. Stay strong.
